Obituary for Peter James Clary

Mr. Peter James Clary, Sr., age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021 at his home. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.

Born on July 27, 1931, he was she son of Irving Clary and Mahalia (nee Valentine) of Tutelo Saponi from Fort Christanna. He was the husband of Sadie (nee Cannon) for 65 years as they were married on Dec. 24, 1955.

Peter J. Clary, Sr. was a Korean War Veteran, a special police officer, and unionized welder and for many years he was also the neighborhood mechanic. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable and fruit gardens.

Mr. Clary was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He will forever be remembered for his strong character, kindness, laughter and devotion to his family. He loved reading his birthday cards aloud for all of us to hear……”Ain’t that nice.”

Peter J. Clary, Sr. is preceded in death by his daughter, Yolanda Ninette Clary and is survived by his loving wife, Sadie; his son, Peter Jr.; daughters Felicia Clary and Brigitte Clary (Elizabeth Borrero); Mark Cegelski and grandchildren, Sean Caldwell, Brandon Taylor, Cory Cegelski (Donna), and Alexcia Cegelski. Also surviving are his great grandchildren, Chyna Lewis, DeSean Torres, Phoenix Caldwell and Dakota Cegelski; his sisters-in-law, Anna Lee Clary and Ethel Harris; and many sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends. He will forever be loved and missed by everyone who knew him.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2pm, Wednesday December 22, 2021 at Crestview Memorial Park in South Hill. The family will receive friends at Farrar Funeral Home from noon until 1:45pm.
