Happy Memories

One of my earliest memories of Diana was of the lovely bride on her wedding day, September 5, 1954. It was an extremely hot day--over 100 degrees--and the wedding party was fanning one another to keep from passing out! After the ceremony, I recall going to the reception where I had my first ever chocolate brownie, which was to become a lifelong favorite for my sweet tooth! I always loved when she and Howard came to Grandma's for a weekend. They were young and energetic and fun to be around. There are vivid recollections of them horseback riding and riding bicycles and Howard strumming a guitar. If I was around at the right time, I loved watching her put on her makeup and spray herself with White Shoulders perfume. I was delighted when she gave me the free gift she had gotten with her perfume purchase--a white plastic high-heeled shoe, which I have to this day! Many Sunday afternoons they would join the "Love Bunch" around Addie Maud's piano and sing along to the beautiful music she played.. There are too many memories to name of the wonderful times I shared with Diana and Howard for a week most summers during my adolescent years. They always planned some exciting and fun things to do and Diana always had delicious meals-from-scratch every night, often something different from what I had back on the farm. I will always cherish the memories from those days. Diana was indeed a special lady that I am thankful for having in my family and in my life. May she rest in peace. (With lots of "LOVE", Juliet)
