Obituary for John D Field

Field, John D. age 88 of Honolulu, Hawaii and Palmer Springs, Virginia died Friday April 18, 2014. He is survived by his sons, John D. Field, Jr. (Susie) of Honolulu, Hawaii and Peyton B. Field (Cheryl) of Palmer Springs, Virginia and daughter Catharine Mason of Vero Beach, Florida. Also, surviving is his brother Harry P. Field, Jr. (Janie) of Kahalu’u, Hawaii and eight grandchildren: Sarah, Robby, Charlie, and Jimmy Field of Honolulu, Carrie and PJ Field of Palmer Springs, Chad and Craig Mason of Vero Beach. John was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Bobbitt Field. John was a descendent of the missionary Gerrit P. Judd who arrived in the Hawaiian Islands in 1828. John was a graduate of Punahou School and the University of Hawaii. He also attended Hampden-Sydney and was a World War II veteran. He had a lifelong career in the telecom industry and retired from Hawaiian Telephone/GTE in 1986. He was very active in the business community and was President of the Blood Bank of Hawaii, on the Board of Directors for Hawaiian Electric and served as Board member of several other organizations such as Arcadia. He was a lifelong member of Rotary and attended both South Hill, Virginia and Honolulu, Hawaii clubs. John had a love of deep sea fishing, boating, reading and staying active. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 28 at 2 pm at the Oakwood Cemetery in South Hill. On Sunday, April 27, the family will receive friends from 1pm to 2:30 pm at the Farrar Funeral Home in South Hill. A memorial service is being planned for Honolulu, Hawaii for friends and family at a later date.
