Obituary for John Edward Taylor

John  Edward  Taylor
John Edward Taylor of South Hill died on August 11, 2013 at the age of 90. He was the son of the late John Herbert Taylor and Nannie Elam Taylor and the brother of the late Herbert Taylor. He is survived by his wife Jane Paulette Taylor, his sons John Harrison Taylor of Richmond and Stuart Edward Taylor and his wife Carmen of South Hill. He was predeceased by his son Thomas Goode Taylor. Also surviving are three grandchildren Anne Massie Taylor, Gallion Emilye Taylor and Jackson Edward Taylor; two nieces, two nieces-in-law, and a nephew-in-law.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Greatest Generation. He served during World War II with the Eighty Seventh Airdrome Squadron in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a member and former trustee of the South Hill United Methodist Church. He was a former board member of Prestwood Foundation and was a board member of the Boyd Tavern Foundation. He was a member of American Legion Post 79, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and former member of South Hill Masonic Lodge #297AF&AM. He had his own construction company for many years and was the first owner and operator of South Hill Paint Store. Mr. Taylor was a mild-mannered, soft-spoken gentleman of great personal character with a warm smile.

Visitation will be held at Farrar Funeral Home from 6-8 pm on Monday, August 12 and other times at his home. Graveside Service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at 11am on Tuesday, August 13.
