Obituary for Clarence Richard Gillespie

Mr. Clarence Richard Gillespie, Sr, age 85 of Bracey, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte T. Gillespie of the home; a son, Clarence R. “Rick” Gillespie, Jr. (Kathie) of Franklinton, NC ; a daughter, Peggy G. Smith and a sister, Nancy B. Johnson both of Richmond
VA. He was preceded in death by his grandson, W. Roy Smith, II and his sister Burbridge Rutledge.

Clarence graduated from Boydton High School and Hampton Sydney College with a BA in Business. He worked at Mecklenburg County School Board a Pupil Transportation Supervisor and retired from Department of Education in Richmond as the Pupil Transportation Supervisor. He served US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War, was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, and life member of Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Department where he served on the fund raising committee. He was a former Deacon at Boydton Baptist Church, Fire Chief of Boydton Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Ruritan Club, South Hill Moose Lodge, VFW, and American Legion Post 79. Clarence love his community, loved working in his yard, playing golf, working on small engine and most of all taking care of his family.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11am Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Farrar Funeral Home with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
