Gerald  Thomas ""Jug'"  Wilson
Gerald “Jug” Wilson, age 76, of South Hill, VA passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Myrtle Rae Vandergrift Wilson of the home, a daughter Rayna Wilson Adams of Macon, NC; two sons, Andrew Wilson of Grover, NC and Curtis Wilson; and two granddaughters Brooke Adams of Charlotte, NC and Courtney Adams (Michael) Fussell of Shelby, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Loretta “Sweet” (Donald) Dodrill of Rocky Mount, NC; one brother, James “JimBoy” (Roberta) Wilson of Fancy Gap, VA; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his parents James Wells and Virginia Bissett Wilson; one sister Martha “Joanne” (Dick) Keener.

While living in Barrackville, “Jug” was employed with Owen Illinois and was relocated to North Carolina as a master mold maker. Later he moved to Creedmoor, NC where he was the city planner and zoning officer for 18 years. He also was a skilled machinist/tool sharpener, owner of Wilson’s Tool Service. Most importantly, he was a non-denominational Bible Scholar with over 54 years of teaching scripture. Jug led a very active, enjoyable lifestyle up until his death. Some of his hobbies included farming, boating, water skiing, white water rafting and the thrill of a roller coaster.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather instilling in his family the value of faith, independence, honesty and hard work that he exemplified throughout his life. Growing up in Barrackville, he enjoyed playing sports and was quite the athlete. He played little league baseball and his team of 1953 was the first team to win the Pony League World Series.

Arrangements are being handled by Farrar Funeral Home of South Hill, VA. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am, Thursday, March 26, 2015 with interment to follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Online condolences may be directed to www.farrarfuneralhome.net.
